Pursuing Ballet and Education at Ballet Vero Beach
August 19th, 2023, marked a significant turning point in my life, as I embarked on a remarkable journey with Ballet Vero Beach in Vero Beach, Florida, USA. I am thrilled to share with you the incredible opportunity that I’ve been blessed with—a two-year contract as a “Fellow Dancer” at Ballet Vero Beach and a scholarship to pursue my Associate Degree at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida offered by Ballet Vero Beach. This unique opportunity has not only allowed me to chase my dreams in the world of ballet but also continue my academic education. In this blog, I’ll take you through my journey and the realization of a dream that my family and I thought was beyond reach.
A Dream Come True
Growing up, I was passionate about ballet, but the pursuit of a professional dance career often came at the cost of higher education. I had always dreamt of becoming a professional dancer, but at the same time, I cherished the idea of going to college and obtaining a degree. However, it seemed like a distant dream because many dance companies do not prioritize their dancers’ academic aspirations.
The Opportunity
The day I received the news from Adam Schnell, Artistic Director/CEO of Ballet Vero Beach was nothing short of a miracle. The company offered me a “Fellow Dancer” position, which meant I would be a part of their ensemble for the next two years. This was a dream come true in itself, as I would be able to hone my skills and perform with some of the most talented dancers in the industry. But there was more to come.
The scholarship to pursue my Associate Degree at Indian River State College that BVB offered was the unexpected blessing that left my family and me in awe. I never knew such opportunities existed, where a dance company genuinely cared about their dancers’ academic pursuits. The chance to combine my passion for ballet with higher education was something I thought was impossible.
Balancing Dreams
The next two years promise to be a whirlwind of training, performances, and academics. Juggling the demands of a rigorous dance schedule with my studies won’t be easy, but I’m ready for the challenge. This is such a rare opportunity to prove that pursuing one’s passion doesn’t mean sacrificing education. It’s about striking a balance and proving that dreams can be realized on multiple fronts.
