Pursuing My Business Management Degree at Indian River State College: A Journey of Determination and Dreams
Embarking on a new academic journey can be an exciting yet challenging experience, especially when circumstances don’t go as planned. My pursuit of a Business Management Associate degree at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida, USA, is a testament to my determination and resilience. Although my academic journey was initially set to begin during the Fall Semester, the slow admission process forced me to delay my plans. This blog narrates my journey, from unexpected setbacks to taking a leap of faith and my vision for the future.
A Delayed Start
My academic adventure was supposed to commence during the Fall Semester in 2023, with a scheduled flight to the United States on August 18th. However, unforeseen delays in the admission process left me with no choice but to fly to the US under a B1 Visa, categorizing me as a tourist. My hope was to rectify the situation and get my admission process back on track, aiming to start my studies in the upcoming Spring Semester.
A Journey Back Home
To obtain my Student Visa (F1), I had to return to Indonesia, which meant a short trip back home. I planned to spend a week, including travel time, to ensure I would return in time for the Nutcracker show in Indian River. This journey home wasn’t just a necessity; it was a chance to regroup and refocus on my academic aspirations.
A Sudden Realization
Little did I know that my college would be located outside of Vero Beach, which is also home to my ballet studio, Ballet Vero Beach. The commute from my new location to campus would take 45 minutes by car, which added up to an expense of about USD 80 for each round trip using Uber. This new challenge led me to consider obtaining a driver’s license.
Getting Behind the Wheel
To address the transportation issue and reduce expenses, I decided to obtain a driver’s license in Indonesia. The plan was to secure an Indonesian driving license and then apply for an International driving license, which would be essential for driving in the United States. But that wasn’t the only hurdle. I also needed to save up to purchase a cost-effective car.
Facing the Financial Challenge
With the unexpected expenses associated with commuting and the need for a car, I found myself in a situation where I needed to earn and save money. My determination to make my academic journey a success led me to explore various avenues to generate income and budget wisely.
Leaning on Faith
With numerous challenges and a daunting to-do list, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. However, I firmly believe that I can overcome these obstacles by leaning on my faith and trusting in a higher power. I know that with God’s guidance, I won’t lose my way and will successfully navigate this complex path.
My journey to pursue a Business Management Associate degree at Indian River State College may not have begun as planned, but it is a testament to my determination, resilience, and unwavering faith. With a clear vision for the future and a willingness to overcome challenges, I am excited to embark on this educational adventure, knowing that every step of the way, I’ll be guided by my faith and determination to succeed.
