Navigating Uncertainty – A Summer Reflection

As the summer of 2020 approaches, uncertainty hangs heavy in the air. For many, it’s a season eagerly anticipated—a time for growth, exploration, and cherished experiences. But for some, like myself, it’s a period tinged with apprehension and unanswered questions.

I had been looking forward to attending my school’s Summer Intensive, a program integral to my journey as a budding ballerina. However, circumstances beyond my control have cast doubt upon this possibility. The financial strain of airfare, compounded by the global Covid-19 pandemic, has left me grappling with the harsh reality of my situation.

My heart aches with the longing to return home to Jakarta, to be enveloped in the warmth of family and familiar surroundings. Yet, I am acutely aware of the sacrifices already made on my behalf. My parents have poured their resources into nurturing my aspirations, and I cannot bear to burden them further.

The prospect of a prolonged separation weighs heavily on my mind. How will I fill the void left by the absence of structured learning and the camaraderie of my peers? It’s a question I grapple with daily, as I navigate the uncertain terrain of this unprecedented summer.

In the face of adversity, I find solace in faith. Though the path ahead may be shrouded in darkness, I trust in a higher power to guide me through the storm. I cling to the belief that this too shall pass, and brighter days lie on the horizon.

As I prepare to embark on a journey back to Indonesia, I do so with a heavy heart yet unwavering hope. While the Summer Intensive may elude me this year, I remain steadfast in my pursuit of excellence. And so, I bid farewell to Orlando, uncertain of what the future holds, but steadfast in my resolve to persevere.

To those facing similar challenges, I extend my solidarity and encouragement. May we find strength in adversity, and may the bonds of resilience carry us through these trying times. As we navigate the uncertainties of summer 2020, let us hold fast to hope, for it is our greatest ally in the face of adversity.
