July 29, 2018, marked a pivotal moment in my dance journey as I proudly clinched the 3rd place at the Marlupi Dance Academy competition. The rush of excitement and pride that surged through me was unparalleled, a testament to the countless hours of dedication and hard work I had poured into perfecting my craft. Little did I know that the celebration would soon be overshadowed by a perplexing mystery surrounding my reward – or lack thereof.
The Thrill of Victory
Winning the 3rd place was a dream come true. The applause, the cheers, and the sheer joy of being recognized for my efforts were moments I had envisioned during the countless hours of practice leading up to the competition. The exhilaration of standing on the podium, basking in the spotlight, and receiving the acknowledgment of my skills were memories etched in my heart forever.
The Blank Envelope
However, the euphoria took an unexpected turn when I was handed a blank envelope as my reward. Confusion and disappointment clouded my elation as I tried to make sense of this seemingly empty gesture. How could an internal competition, meant to celebrate the achievements of its students, fall short in recognizing and rewarding their hard work?

As a student, the acknowledgment of my efforts, accompanied by a simple certificate, would have spoken volumes about the Academy’s commitment to fostering a supportive and appreciative environment.

While it’s entirely possible that oversights occur, transparency is crucial in maintaining the trust of the student body. If the intention is not to reward or appreciate students, it’s better not to set expectations through competitions. Authenticity should be at the core of every institution’s values, ensuring that students feel genuinely valued for their hard work and dedication.
The 3rd place win was a pivotal moment in my growth as a dancer. However, the confusion and disappointment stemming from the lack of recognition cast a shadow on an otherwise joyous occasion. As students, we invest not just in perfecting our craft but also in the belief that our efforts will be acknowledged and celebrated.
